Ah, kidneys, the quiet multitaskers keeping everything flowing smoothly. We don’t often think about these bean-shaped champs, but they work
In today’s fast-paced world, many of us overlook the vital role preventive healthcare plays in our overall well-being. Two key
We are thrilled to share some incredible news from the Early Kidney Detection Foundation (EKDF)! Olympic all-around gymnastics champion, Suni Lee, has joined forces with the American Kidney Fund (AKF) for the Know Your Kidneys initiative. This collaboration is a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of kidney health awareness.
Suni Lee, who recently earned a spot on the U.S. gymnastics team for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, has shown the world what true determination looks like. After being diagnosed with kidney disease of an unknown origin in 2023, Suni took a break from gymnastics to focus on her health. Her journey back to the sport she loves, culminating in her successful qualification for the Olympic team, is nothing short of inspirational.
Suni’s story is one of hope and empowerment. “Getting diagnosed with kidney disease turned the world that I knew upside-down. At the time of my diagnosis, I was 20 years old, competing in a sport that I love so much,” Lee said. “My kidney disease has been difficult, and I know firsthand that sometimes the cause of your disease isn’t clear-cut. But I want to encourage others to be informed about their kidney health and become a self-advocate for a treatment plan that can allow them to live their best life. I’m thrilled to work with the American Kidney Fund and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
At EKDF, we are inspired by Suni’s journey and are committed to supporting individuals at every stage of their kidney health journey. Our mission is to promote early detection, provide education, and advocate for better kidney health outcomes. As ambassadors of AKF, we are dedicated to spreading awareness and providing essential resources to help people understand their kidney disease and take control of their health.
The Know Your Kidneys initiative, which Suni Lee is championing, aligns perfectly with our mission. This program offers a customized experience for those at risk for kidney disease and those living with it, providing comprehensive, interactive resources to support them through their entire kidney disease journey.
Suni’s partnership with AKF highlights the importance of understanding the cause of kidney disease and advocating for effective treatment plans. At EKDF, we are proud to play a role in this important mission, empowering individuals to live their best lives despite the challenges of kidney disease.
Join us in celebrating Suni Lee’s incredible journey and our shared commitment to better kidney health. Together, we can make a difference and inspire others to take charge of their kidney health.

The recent Supreme Court ruling on Chevron deference could significantly affect health policy. For EKDF, understanding this ruling’s implications is crucial. Chevron deference, originating from a 1984 Supreme Court case, requires courts to defer to federal agencies’ interpretations of ambiguous statutes, provided they are reasonable.
The recent ruling potentially narrows this deference, meaning more stringent judicial review of agency decisions. This could lead to increased scrutiny and slower implementation of health regulations.
For EKDF, this means:
Regulatory Stability and Innovation: We must advocate for clear regulations supporting kidney health innovation.
Funding and Support Programs: We need to ensure stable funding for kidney health initiatives.
Patient Advocacy and Protection: Strengthening our advocacy network to prioritize the voices of kidney patients.
Collaborative Efforts: Fostering partnerships between healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and patient groups.
EKDF remains committed to promoting kidney health through early detection, education, and advocacy. We will stay proactive and informed to navigate these changes and continue our mission effectively.
